The parallels in cultivating works of art and cultivating the land are at the core of my work and I try to unearth a connection to the cycles and seasons of life. An important element in my practice is process and I paint primarily 'en plein air'. In this way I feel I am 'growing' a painting. Through direct painting in the natural world I have a deeper understanding of the elements that determine it’s continued presence. This way of working on the land is immediate and intuitive and is dependent on what can’t be controlled — climate.
